How to Convert Between Time Zones

"What time is it over there?" In our connected world, this is a question I ask all the time, whether I'm scheduling a meeting with an international colleague, calling a friend who lives overseas, or just trying to catch a live event happening in another country. I built this Time Zone Converter to be a simple, reliable tool to answer that question instantly.

How This Converter Works

This tool uses your browser's built-in Internationalization API (Intl), which has a comprehensive understanding of time zones, including complex rules for Daylight Saving Time (DST).

  • You enter a date and time in your "source" time zone.
  • The calculator converts that specific moment into a universal standard (UTC).
  • It then translates that UTC time into the local time of your chosen "target" time zone, automatically applying any DST adjustments for that specific date.

This ensures you get an accurate conversion, not just a simple offset of a few hours, which can be wrong when one location observes DST and the other doesn't.

What Is UTC and How Does Daylight Saving Time Work?

What is UTC?

Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is the primary time standard by which the world regulates clocks and time. It is effectively the successor to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). All other time zones are defined by their offset from UTC (e.g., Eastern Standard Time is UTC-5).

What is Daylight Saving Time (DST)?

Daylight Saving Time is the practice of advancing clocks during warmer months so that darkness falls at a later clock time. This is why a time zone might be listed as "PST/PDT" (Pacific Standard Time / Pacific Daylight Time). My calculator automatically handles these shifts for you based on the date you select, so you don't have to worry about whether a location is currently in its "standard" or "daylight" time.
